NTE 1.3 Zankou Guide | Teams & Rotation
Version 1.3 of Neverness to Everness introduces Zankou, a new limited S-Rank character.
Zankou is an Incantation DPS built around switching between Reality Form and Illusion Form, while applying DoT effects such as Heartwrench, Vile Ash, and Scorch.
She can be played as an on-field main DPS in Break teams, using enhanced Redirect Skills and her two-part Ultimate for strong burst damage. She also works well as a Scorch DoT sub-DPS in Lacrimosa teams, helping spread DoTs and keep the team’s damage rotation running smoothly.
1. Zankou Core Mechanics
Zankou's core mechanic is switching between "Reality Form" and "Illusion Form" .
1. Reality Form: Start the Rotation
Zankou starts combat mainly in Reality Form。
In this form, she gains the "Hunt" buff, increasing her personal damage.
Do not press E immediately. First use one of the following:
-
Wildfire hits 4–5
-
Flickering Shadow
-
Voidstep after a Critical Dodge
to enable the enhanced Redirect Skill。
After using the enhanced Redirect Skill in Reality Form:
-
Triggers "Disarray」
-
Deals heavy Break damage
-
Extends "Hunt" duration
-
Inflicts 5 stacks of Heartwrench
-
Switches to Illusion Form
Key tip: do not use the normal Redirect Skill immediately just to swap forms.
The enhanced Redirect Skill is the key part of Zankou's rotation. Swapping forms without setting it up costs both damage and Break pressure.
2. Illusion Form: DoT Spread
After entering Illusion Form Zankou gains the "Delusion" buff and enters her DoT-spread phase.
Basic Attacks in Illusion Form:
-
Inflict "Heartwrench」
-
Spread DoT effects from the target to nearby enemies
-
Build and maintain DoT stacks
-
Set up Scorch and the burst window
「Heartwrench" is Zankou’s Incantation DoT and a key part of her kit.
Do not rush through Illusion Form.
Keep attacking to spread DoTs and maintain stacks before leaving the form.
3. Enhanced Illusion Redirect: Oblivion
After staying in Illusion Form, Soulcross becomes enhanced.
When cast, it:
-
Triggers "Oblivion」
-
Extends "Delusion" duration
-
Inflicts another 5 stacks of Heartwrench
-
Returns to Reality Form
-
Unlocks the two-part Ultimate chain
This is the key setup for Zankou's burst.
In short:
Enhanced Sanguine Dash → Illusion Form → DoT spread → Enhanced Soulcross → Double Ultimate.
4. Two-Part Ultimate
Zankou's Ultimate chain is the payoff of her full rotation.
After the Illusion setup, cast:
Ultimate: Bloodfeast Reverie
often called Q1。
Q1 applies "Vile Ash" and opens a short window for:
Ultimate: Inferno Flamenco
or Q2。
You do not have to press Q2 immediately after Q1.
During the window, you can:
-
Weave in a branch attack
-
Fit in another enhanced Reality Redirect Skill
-
Quick-swap if your team rotation allows it
For higher damage, use the Q1-to-Q2 window instead of always pressing Q2 instantly.
2. Zankou Build
1. Best Arcs
|
Tier |
Arc |
Notes |
|
Best in Slot |
Ravenous Blade |
Zankou's signature Arc and best-in-slot option. It provides CRIT Rate and stacks CRIT DMG when she deals Incantation DMG. |
|
A-Rank Alternative |
Watch Your Heads! |
A solid budget option with CRIT DMG and an ATK boost after using a Redirect Skill. Good for players without her signature Arc. |
If you plan to use Zankou as a long-term on-field main DPS, Ravenous Blade is highly valuable.
The reason is simple:
Zankou wants both CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG, and her on-field rotation can reliably stack the signature Arc.
If you have enough resources, consider 0+1。
If you mainly use Zankou as a sub-DPS in a Lacrimosa DoT team, an A-Rank Arc is perfectly fine as a temporary option.
2. Console Setup
|
Slot |
Recommendation |
|
Cartridge Set |
Crimson: Twin Butterflies |
|
With Signature Arc |
CRIT DMG > Incantation DMG |
|
With A-Rank Arc |
Prioritize CRIT Rate |
|
Substat Priority |
CRIT Rate ≈ CRIT DMG > ATK% > DMG Bonus > ATK |
3. Skill Priority
Basic Attack = Redirect Skill = Ultimate > Support Skill
All three main damage skills contribute meaningfully, so max them eventually.
If resources are tight, use this order:
Basic Attack 10 → Redirect Skill 10 → Ultimate 10 → Support Skill
Her core passives are also important.Unlock and level both passives early。
4. Awakening & Investment
Zankou has different Awakening priorities depending on her team.
|
Role |
Recommended Investment |
Notes |
|
F2P Main DPS |
0+0/0+1 |
A0 already has the full rotation. Ravenous Blade is the best next upgrade if you have the budget. |
|
DoT Sub-DPS |
A1 is a strong early breakpoint |
Improves DoT spreading and makes Hunt / Delusion easier to maintain. |
|
Break Main DPS |
A5 is the key Break-focused upgrade |
Focuses on Zankou’s Break burst and on-field damage. |
|
Higher Investment |
A2 and A4 are strong damage upgrades |
Further improves her Ultimate chain and post-Esper Cycle burst. |
|
High Awakening |
Adjust for your DoT / Break team setup |
Higher Awakenings improve her double-Ultimate burst, Break damage, and quick-swap potential. |
Most players do not need to chase high Awakenings.
For a comfortable build,A0 + Signature is already a very complete setup. If you want to invest further, choose Awakenings based on whether you run Lacrimosa DoT or Daffodill Break teams.
If you plan to pull Zankou, her signature Arc, or higher Awakenings, budget your pulls in advance. You can also check[NTE top up]for top-up options. Confirm your server and required amount before purchasing.
3. Best Teams
Zankou is flexible and can fit more than one team archetype.
She works in Scorch, Break, and DoT sub-DPS teams, with Hexed teams as another option.
|
Team |
Lineup |
Best For |
|
Zankou Scorch / Break Main DPS |
Zankou + Daffodill + Sakiri + Iroi |
Bosses and harder content. A strong on-field Zankou core. |
|
Lacrimosa Scorch DoT Team |
Lacrimosa + Zankou + Sakiri + Iroi |
DoT-focused dual-carry / sub-DPS setup. |
|
Hexed Team |
Zankou + Linko + Flex |
Hexed and follow-up attack setup. |
4. Should You Pull Zankou?
1. Need an On-Field Main DPS: Recommended
If your account needs a main DPS who performs well in both single-target and AoE content, Zankou is a strong Version 1.3 option.
Her main strengths:
-
Smooth on-field gameplay
-
Strong Break pressure
-
Reliable DoT damage
-
Good AoE coverage
-
Works as both main DPS and sub-DPS
-
Scales well with higher Awakenings
She is not locked to a single team.
2. F2P: A0 Works, A0 + Signature Is Better
If you only want the character:
A0 is fully playable.
If you plan to main Zankou long term:
A0 + Signature is the most comfortable stopping point.
Ravenous Blade gives the CRIT stats Zankou wants and fits her on-field rotation very well.
3. Pick Your Team Before Pulling Awakenings
Different Zankou teams value different Awakenings.
If you run:
Lacrimosa + Zankou DoT
prioritize DoT spreading and Hunt / Delusion uptime.
If you run:
Daffodill + Zankou Break
prioritize Break burst and Zankou’s personal damage.
Do not pull an Awakening just because it is strong in a different team.
Conclusion
Zankou is one of Version 1.3’s standout Incantation on-field DPS characters。
Her strength is not just her DoTs. She combines:
DoT stacking, Scorch, Break, form switching, and a two-part Ultimate
into one complete rotation.
For most players,A0 or A0 + Signature is enough for most content. Advanced players can push her further with Q1/Q2 routing, high-Awakening Break setups, and Lacrimosa dual-carry teams.

FAQ
Q1: Does Zankou’s DoT ignore CRIT Rate?
Not exactly.
Zankou still benefits heavily from CRIT because her kit includes Basic Attacks, Redirect Skills, Ultimates, Break damage, and DoT-related damage. Ravenous Blade also directly boosts CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.
In practice, keep a balanced CRIT ratio。
With Ravenous Blade, you can lean more into CRIT DMG and Incantation DMG. Without it, prioritize CRIT Rate if your consistency is too low.
Q2: Can Adler fully replace Sakiri?
He can fill the slot, but he is not a direct replacement.
Sakiri is extremely useful in Scorch and DoT teams, so use her when available.
Adler works better in budget variants such as:
Zankou + Daffodill + Sakiri + Adler
He adds DoT support, Scorch setup, shields, and extra Break utility.
Q3: Is Zankou good without her signature Arc?
Yes.
Her form switching, DoT spreading, and double-Ultimate mechanics are all part of her base kit.
The A-Rank Arc "Watch Your Heads!" is a solid temporary option.
Ravenous Blade is still a major upgrade because its CRIT bonuses fit Zankou perfectly. If you plan to main her, A0 + Signature is the better long-term setup.
Q4: Is Zankou a main DPS or sub-DPS?
She can do both, depending on the team.
For example:
Zankou + Daffodill + Sakiri + Iroi
Zankou is mainly the on-field main DPS / Break core。
For example:
Lacrimosa + Zankou + Sakiri + Iroi
Zankou plays more like a DoT sub-DPS / burst swap unit。
Her role depends on the team rather than a single fixed label.
