Main Story and Quests: A Tribute to Sci-Fi and Anime Classics
The Mysterious Entrance to the Bureau of Anomaly Control In the opening of the story, the protagonist enters the Bureau of Anomaly Control through a telephone booth. This design is a clever homage to the time machine and spacecraft from the classic British sci-fi series Doctor Who.
The Bizarre Adventures of the Eibon Antique Shop When the Eibon crew heads to the photo studio to investigate an anomaly, the set design of Studio 1 recreates the legendary Sword in the Stone from the King Arthur mythos. After helping to resolve the film roll anomaly, Hotori takes a family photo as a memento and part of the reward. The four of them strike the iconic JoJo Poses from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in front of the camera, paying tribute from left to right to Jolyne Cujoh, Jonathan Joestar, Jotaro Kujo, and Giorno Giovanna.
To help Taygedo complete his confession, the entire Eibon crew, except for Hotori and Daffodill, mobilizes to orchestrate a flawed yet incredibly sincere damsel-in-distress rescue. The most outrageous part comes from Nanally, who drags Sakiri into acting out a classic scene from Naruto.
Later, when the group arrives at Azure Vista Station, keen-eyed players will notice that the font design and scene layout perfectly pay homage to the anime Yuru Camp.
Anime Scene Recreations in Spinoff Quests
Pawn Moonlight: The spatial design and boss fight interactions in this quest pay tribute to the Infinity Castle from Demon Slayer.
Where Worlds Sprout, Fall Unfolds: In this level 15 spinoff, everything from the overall map atmosphere to the boss design is inspired by The Mystic Archives of Dantalian.
A Legendary(?) Band's First Page: In this level 21 spinoff, a street sign quotes the lyrics of "Guitar, Loneliness and Blue Planet" from Bocchi the Rock!, and the underground Live House's hallway and stage lighting similarly pay tribute to the same series. The record obtained after completing the quest, Mayoi Uta, is the very same song from BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!.
Hidden Easter Eggs in the Social System The moment you open the friends system, the empty background states that the goal is to make 100 friends. This accurately replicates the ultimate wish of Shoko Komi from Komi Can't Communicate.
Open World Exploration: Youthful Memories Hidden in the Streets
The open world of Hethereau hides an entire generation of anime memories.
School Days in Northridge Town and Clement Academy Heading to the park above Ironheart 9th Avenue in Northridge Town, you will see a giant penguin slide, exactly the same one frequented by Sakura and Tomoyo in Cardcaptor Sakura.
Walking into the Occult Club classroom at Clement Academy in Illusion Town, a giant Clow Card magic circle is laid out on the floor. Just standing in the center automatically makes the line echo in your head: "Key that hides the power of the dark, show your true form before me!" In the adjacent classroom, you will spot a male student sitting by the window, striking an incredibly dramatic pose with his chin resting on his hand, mimicking the protagonist from Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto.
After school, heading to the banks of Caltrop Lake in the Miguel District, you can see three people sitting on the grass, paying homage to the classic black-haired literary girl scene from Daily Lives of High School Boys.
A Pilgrimage to Makoto Shinkai and Tearjerker Masterpieces
Your Name: Above the Z42 Coastal Highway in Hankaku Street, passing through the bustling streets reveals a familiar set of red stairs, recreating the spot where Mitsuha and Taki passed each other. If you visit the flower fields of Northridge Town at night, if you are lucky, you might even witness a meteor with a long tail streaking across the night sky.
5 Centimeters per Second: Also at a railway crossing in the upper right of Hankaku Street, standing before the rusted tracks watching the green train pass by, the swirling dust brings back memories of that silent backward glance.
The Garden of Words: Teleport to the phone booth on Crystal Mountain Avenue, change the weather to rain, and head below Fiscus Avenue in Bridge Crossings. Strolling through the rain deep into the park, you will find the wooden gazebo where Takao and Yukari first met.
CLANNAD: On Flamingo Avenue in the New Herland District, a slope with falling cherry blossoms pays tribute to the fateful meeting of Tomoya and Nagisa. And in the flower fields opposite Northridge Town, the golden canola flowers blooming at dusk recreate the tear-inducing moment when Ushio threw herself into her father's arms and cried out loud.
White Album: Jumping down from the phone booth and switching the weather to snow, arriving at a street covered in white snow at night, just put on the right BGM and you are back to that familiar season.
Commercial Streets and Distinctive Architecture: The Anime Fan Gathering
Arriving at the liveliest commercial street, you will find it is practically an anime theme park:
There is a Tamamochi Street that perfectly replicates the shopping district from Tamako Market, and the name itself is a subtle nod from the official team: Tamako and Mochizo.
In the residential area on the bottom right of Northridge Town, you can spot the grassy empty lot with the familiar cement pipes, which is exactly where Nobita and his friends hung out after school in Doraemon; a few steps forward is the Nohara family house from Crayon Shin-chan; and near the phone booth in Illusion Town, you can even find the exact apartment where Umaru and her brother live in Himouto! Umaru-chan.
On Flamingo Avenue, at the corner top-left of the phone booth, you can find the famous long slope from Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend.
The commercial street also features the Mystia's Izakaya from Touhou Project, the roasted pork shop from Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest, Mr. Braun's shop from Steins;Gate, the Fujiwara Tofu Shop from Initial D with an AE86 parked out front, a Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid themed cafe whose logo features a maid with a dragon tail, and the diving shop from Grand Blue.
Landmark Sceneries: Grand Fantasy Worlds
Heading towards the Urban Building and the seaside of Unheard Shores, you can spot the train running on the ocean from Spirited Away.
Looking up while standing on Saint Torres Avenue, the artificial satellite embedded in the building from Steins;Gate hangs quietly. Driving further down near the sea by the Nautilus Tunnel, a glance back reveals the classic Odaiba scenery from Digimon Adventure.
Players who love ocean views can drive along the coast to find the Iris Bridge, which perfectly matches the iconic Fuyuki Bridge from the Fate series. Inside the Q³ clothing store, you can even find character standees of The Powerpuff Girls and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.
Hidden Anomalies and Achievements: Mecha, Tokusatsu, and Card Game Romance
During our exploration, we will also encounter various hidden anomalies:
After defeating an anomaly named Proliferative C in the Unheard Shores, you will unlock the achievement Normal Summon!, a direct nod to Maxx "C" from Yu-Gi-Oh!. Furthermore, the full name of the Orichalcos Imaginist located in the bottom right of Unheard Shores instantly triggers the DNA of any card player, bringing to mind the Doma Swordsmen.
Speeding through Unheard Shores late at night gives you a chance to crash into a hidden Headless Rider boss with an exclusive entrance animation, paying tribute to Durarara!!. This boss can only be triggered by driving a car at night.
Passing through the seaside tunnel into the anomaly space of the giant whale Sea Prisoner, the massive red crosses and juice sea are identical to the scenes from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Tokusatsu fans are not left out either! Walking through neighborhoods, you can see Masked Hero characters putting on stage fights. The commercial street features a Gavv Snack Shop paying homage to Kamen Rider Gavv. The Xtreme99! Arcade in Bridge Crossings holds a Kamen Rider Ex-Aid easter egg. And if you buy Masked Hero figures at the DSD Pop Toys shop, close inspection reveals they pay tribute to Kamen Rider 1, Kamen Rider Kabuto, and Kamen Rider W, respectively.
