HSR4.0 — The Complete Path of Elation System New Characters Yaoguang & Sparxie: Mechanics Breakdown
Version 4.0 of Honkai: Star Rail is set to introduce the brand-new Path of Elation, and with it comes an entirely new way to play the game.
With Yaoguang and Sparxie joining the roster, Elation teams unlock what players are already calling the “Aha beatdown comp” — a playstyle that doesn’t rely on brute-forcing stats, but instead abuses Laugh Point stacking, chain reactions, and explosive synergy to wipe content effortlessly.
This guide breaks down the core Elation mechanics, character kits, team logic, and build priorities based on current information, so you can jump straight in once 4.0 drops.
Core System Explained: Laugh Points & Buff-Driven Chaos
The Elation path fundamentally breaks away from traditional hypercarry gameplay. If you want a broader Path of Joy overview before diving into team mechanics, check our full Version 4.0 introduction. Instead of one unit doing all the work, Elation revolves around:
Laugh Point stacking + character synergy + Elation-exclusive buffs
The entire system is built around Aha’s “Moment of Elation”, with the new Elation Trailblazer, Yaoguang, and Sparxie massively accelerating both Laugh Point generation and damage ceilings.
There are two key things every player needs to understand:
Laugh Points are the real damage resource
Basic ATKs, Skills, and other actions all generate Laugh Points. The faster you stack them, the more often Moment of Elation triggers — and the higher your total DPS.Elation damage ignores traditional buff logic
Standard ATK%, DMG%, or generic supports do very little here.
What actually matters are Elation-exclusive stats, such as:Yaoguang’s Elation Rate
Sparxie’s kit-specific conversions
These are what truly scale Elation damage.
New Character Breakdown
Yaoguang (Elation • Physical)
Role: Core Elation Support & Aha Engine
Yaoguang’s kit is almost entirely designed to fuel the Elation system. For a fuller look at how both new units function together, check our Yaoguang & Sparxie review.
Skill
Deploys a field for 3 turns, granting +15% Elation Rate to all allies.
Every time Yaoguang uses a Basic ATK or Skill, she also gains +3 Laugh Points.Ultimate
Grants Aha an extra turn worth 20 Laugh Points, effectively triggering an additional Moment of Elation.
Also provides 20% All-Type RES PEN to the entire team for 3 turns.Talent — Extremely Important
While the “Well Played, Well Rewarded” effect is active:Allies’ attacks trigger bonus Elation damage
Each Skill Point consumed adds one extra trigger (up to 3)
If allies lack sufficient Elation Rate, the damage instead scales off Yaoguang’s Elation Rate, making her extremely friendly for low-investment teams.
Build Priorities
Main stats: Elation Rate, CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG
Relics: Speed (to open with field), Energy Regeneration
Light Cones: Team Elation buffs or CRIT-focused options
Note: Her Ultimate costs 180 Energy — without ER, rotations will feel awful
Sparxie (Elation • Fire)
Role: Primary Elation DPS (Main Carry)
Sparxie is the first true Elation main DPS, built around converting Skill Point consumption into massive burst damage. If you plan to build her as your main carry, our Sparxie build guide breaks down her setup in more detail.
Skill
Places interactive traps that boost Enhanced Basic ATK damage and can generate Laugh Points or Skill Points.Ultimate & Talent
Ultimate: Flat +2 Laugh Points
Talent grants extra Laugh Points based on the number of Elation characters:
1 Elation: +1
2 Elation: +2
3 Elation: +8
Triple-Elation teams skyrocket in efficiency.
Eidolons (Major Power Spikes)
E1: Teamwide RES PEN
E4: Additional +5 Laugh Points
E6: Extra bounce hits (high-end scaling)
Recommendation:
E0–E1 is enough for F2P
E4 is optional for players chasing maximum output
Build Priorities
Main stats: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG, Elation Rate
Light Cones: Elation DMG bonuses
No need to force Energy Regen — she rotates naturally within Elation comps
Warp (Pull) Recommendations
Do NOT pull Yaoguang at E0
Her 180-Energy Ultimate is extremely hard to cycle without Eidolons.
E1 minimum is strongly recommended to avoid clunky rotations.Sparxie is currently irreplaceable
If you want to play Elation seriously, she’s the only true Elation DPS available right now.Avoid traditional supports
Most classic buffers provide almost zero value to Elation damage and waste team slots.
Final Thoughts
At launch, the Elation path is still a partial system — there’s no dedicated sustain unit or Skill Point battery yet. If you want to see how Sparkle fits into this evolving archetype, read our Sparkle core analysis.
That said, Yaoguang + Sparxie already deliver impressive damage and extremely fun gameplay, making Elation a great choice for players who enjoy new mechanics and high-tempo combat.
Meta chasers: Waiting for future releases is reasonable
Fun / style players: You can safely dive in right now
After all, not every team lets you laugh your way through endgame content — and that alone makes Elation worth trying.
